SpendSmart AI vs Finny: Two AI Trackers, One Runs on Everyone's Phone

Two plain doors side by side in a bare wall

Finny and SpendSmart AI start from the same good idea. Neither one asks for your banking password, and both let you log a coffee by saying it out loud instead of tapping through a form. If you're choosing between the two, you've already settled the question that matters most, which is that you shouldn't have to hand a company your bank login to find out where your money went.

We make SpendSmart AI. Here's where the two of us actually part company.

Finny's details were checked on the App Store in September 2026. Apps change, so check its listing if one of these points is the one your decision rests on.

Finny runs on Apple hardware. We run on whatever the people around you own.

Finny is an Apple app. iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision, with no Android build and no version you can open in a browser.

SpendSmart AI runs on Android, on iPhone, and on the web, which means it also runs on a work laptop, a borrowed Chromebook and a ten-year-old Windows machine in your parents' spare room.

That sounds like a box to tick until the first time it costs you something. Your partner has a Pixel. Your flatmate isn't going to buy an iPhone so the rent spreadsheet works. You want to look at last quarter on a real screen instead of squinting at a phone on the sofa. Every one of those is a Tuesday, not an edge case.

The bill you split is the one that never gets tracked

This is the part that a feature table hides, so we'll say it plainly: most tracking apps, Finny included, are built for one person's money. Yours isn't only yours. There's the trip, the flatshare, the dinner where one person paid and five people meant to sort it out later and nobody did.

SpendSmart AI does groups, and it does them without requiring everyone to sign up. You add people by name and they're real positions in the ledger straight away. They can pay for things, owe things and be settled with, whether or not they ever install anything. When it's time to square up, the app works out the smallest set of payments that clears everyone instead of sending six people round in a ring.

A tracker that only works when all six people buy the same phone and install the same app is a tracker that gets used for about one trip.

More on how that works: splitting expenses when half the group won't install anything.

Tap to Track, and the meter running behind it

Finny's headline feature is Tap to Track: hold your phone to the terminal and the Apple Pay purchase gets logged. It's a clever use of hardware we can't reach on Android, and if you pay for nearly everything with Apple Pay on an iPhone, it's a genuinely nice way to capture a purchase.

Two things are worth knowing before you pick a tracker for it. It only fires on Apple Pay, so anything you pay for in cash, by card, by bank transfer or online still gets logged the ordinary way. And by Finny's own FAQ, each tap spends one AI credit out of the daily allowance described below, so the flagship feature draws on the same meter as everything else.

The daily cap is the difference nobody reads until month three

Finny's Pro tier allows around 50 AI requests a day, resetting at local midnight. That's their number, from their own FAQ.

SpendSmart AI's Pro has no daily ceiling. Pro lifts the metered allowances and leaves them lifted.

Most days you won't go near either limit. The day you will is the day you get back from a week away with a wallet full of receipts and an evening free to deal with them, which is exactly the day a daily reset is least useful.

Price, and the only price either of us can honestly promise

SpendSmart AI Pro is $2.99 a month in the US, or $25.99 a year. In India it's ₹99 a month. We set separate prices in the currencies we can bill in directly, which today means rupees, pounds and euros, because $2.99 is a rounding error in one country and a real decision in another.

Finny sells its Pro tier through the App Store. We're not going to print their number here, because a competitor's price moves without notice and quoting it is how this page was wrong once already. Open the listing and read it. It takes ten seconds and it'll be current, which is more than any comparison table on anyone's website can claim.

The part you can check without leaving this page: we publish what we charge, per country, on our own pricing section.

On an iPhone, you're not giving anything up

Worth saying, because "the Apple one" is an easy assumption to make about the app that only exists on Apple.

On iPhone, SpendSmart AI ships Home Screen widgets for this month's spending, what's safe to spend and a one-tap add. There's a Siri shortcut, so logging an expense is one phrase from the lock screen. Voice, text and receipt capture all work the same way they do on Android. If you own an iPhone and you're weighing these two, you're choosing between two iPhone apps, one of which also happens to run everywhere else.

So which one

Finny, if every device in your financial life has an Apple logo on it, you pay for almost everything with Apple Pay, and your money is yours alone.

SpendSmart AI, if any of that isn't true. If someone you split with is on Android. If you want to look at your spending on a laptop. If you want the app to still make sense the month you go on a trip with five people. If a flat dollar price isn't a small number where you live.

SpendSmart AI is free to start. No card, no bank login, and it opens in a browser if you'd rather not install anything to try it.

Questions people ask

Is Finny on Android? No. It's an Apple-only app, so if you're on Android the comparison is settled before it starts. The best no-bank-login trackers for Android covers the field.

Can I use Finny in a browser? No, there's no web version. SpendSmart AI runs in any browser, which is also the quickest way to try it without installing anything.

Which one splits bills with friends? SpendSmart AI. You add people by name, they don't need an account, and the app works out who owes what and the shortest way to settle it.

Is SpendSmart AI cheaper than Finny? Depends where you live, and that's the honest answer rather than a dodge. Ours is $2.99 a month in the US and ₹99 in India because we price per country. Finny sells one Pro tier through the App Store, so check its listing for the figure in your storefront.

Which is more private? Neither connects to a bank and neither routes your spending through an aggregator, so privacy isn't the axis that separates them. Platforms, splitting and the daily cap are.
