What's new

Every update to SpendSmart AI, newest first. Android and iPhone do not always get a release on the same day, so if something below is missing from your app it has not reached your platform yet.

Voice entry is back on Android

2.4.3 ·

Voice entry works again on Android, and fixes between store releases now reach every install rather than some.

Voice entry is back on Android

Tap the mic, say the expense, and it is parsed as before. Every mic tap on Android had been failing inside the speech library since the release before last. This release carries the library's fix.

Fixes arrive between releases

Improvements published between store releases now reach every install, not just some.

A statement to hand over, and invite links that last

2.4.2 ·

Hand somebody a statement of what they owe, choose how long an invite link lasts, and three group fixes.

Statement of shared expenses: On a settle-up row, tap Statement to hand somebody a one-page PDF of what they owe: each shared expense and their share, payments already recorded, the balance due, and a QR code back to the group. It is not a tax invoice, and says so. Pro.

Invite links that last: Choose a week, a month or three months when you share an invite link. Reopening the sheet keeps the link you already sent. An Invite button now sits beside Balances, where the question comes up.

Fixes:

  • A button no longer reads "Mark paid" in a group with a member called Mark.
  • A payment notification names the person instead of "someone".
  • A group whose owner left is no longer stuck.

Split a receipt line by line

2.4.0 ·

Split a scanned receipt by item instead of the whole bill, let guests pick their own lines without an account, and open their payment app to settle up.

Split down to the item

A receipt you scan with Pro can now be split line by line instead of evenly across the whole bill. Each line carries its quantity, so two coffees on one row can go to two different people.

Say how many you had

On a line bought more than once, each person says how many they took, instead of the row being broken into separate lines. Whatever nobody takes goes to whoever paid.

Fix a line the scan read wrong

If the scanned lines do not add up to the bill, you can correct an amount or remove a line the receipt does not have. The breakdown unlocks again as soon as they match the total, so one misread line no longer costs you the whole thing.

Guests can pick their own lines

Send someone an invite link and they can tick the items that were theirs from the web page, with no account and no app install.

Pay people from the app

The settle-up row can now open the other person's Venmo, Cash App or PayPal directly, so nobody copies a handle by hand. On Android it opens a UPI app the same way. Dollar amounts are filled in for you, and Venmo and UPI carry a note as well. We never process the payment and never learn whether money moved.

Fixes

  • Deleting a category now syncs every affected transaction instead of only the first.
  • An invite link says whose group it is before it adds you, and works when the app lock is on.
  • An invite link no longer offers you a seat in a group you are already in.
  • A settle-up row now says when you have already told someone you paid it, and confirming what they said settles that payment instead of recording a second one.
  • Groups with many members load faster.
  • A finished update now offers to restart instead of waiting for the next cold start.

Security

The app lock now slows down repeated wrong PIN entries, and on the web your data is no longer selectable behind the lock screen.

Split expenses with friends

2.3.0 ·

Split bills with friends, home-screen widgets, and full country support.

Split expenses with friends

Add people to a group and split any expense between them: evenly, by percentage, or by exact amounts. Nudge someone to settle up through a notification, see the balance broken down by person or category, and invite people with a QR code or a shareable link that opens without an account.

Already using Settle Up? Import an existing group straight from its CSV export. One button, the format is detected automatically.

Home-screen widgets

Add a SpendSmart widget to your home screen for a glance at this month's spending and quick-add actions, on iOS and Android.

Every country, not just the original eight

The country picker now covers every country we support, with the matching currency and payment methods for each.

Basic mode

A new Settings switch turns off AI parsing entirely, no matter your plan. Every entry becomes fully manual.

Also in this release

  • Voice entry can now be undone, and uses the same trigger phrase as the Siri Shortcut.
  • Accessibility fixes across several screens.

Widgets, Siri answers, and Splitwise import

2.2.0 ·

Check Safe to Spend without opening the app, and bring your Splitwise balances across.

Widgets:

Safe to Spend now lives on your home screen, so you can check it without opening the app. On iPhone it works on the lock screen too. Quick Add puts a single tap between you and a logged expense.

Siri:

On iPhone, ask "what is my safe to spend" or "how is my budget" and Siri answers out loud. Logging by voice still works the way it did.

Receipts:

  • If a scan fails, the app now tells you why instead of blaming your photo
  • Receipts shared from Google Pay could not load at all. They work now
  • Share the same receipt twice and the app asks "Add this again?" rather than quietly writing a second row. Say it is the same one and it takes you to the expense you already have

Shared groups:

  • Import a Splitwise export, balances and all
  • Comment on a shared expense, so the conversation stays next to the money
  • Search a group by who paid and who owes
  • Export a group when you need the record

Recurring:

A recurring rule can now have an end date instead of running forever.

Fixes and speed:

  • Syncing a long history is much faster
  • Signing in while offline no longer fails
  • App lock reaches the home screen properly, and hides balances from the widget while locked
  • Opening the app on a new device no longer looks empty for a moment before your data arrives
  • Confirmation dialogs render their buttons correctly
  • Sharing a receipt into the app works right after launch
  • Android handles a bigger ledger, and picks up updates sooner

Groups you can put right

2.1.0 ·

Rename a group, correct a payment you already recorded, and invite links that expire.

Version 2.1 is mostly about groups - and mostly about what happens when something needs changing.

Correct a payment you already recorded

Recorded the wrong amount, or a payment that never actually happened? You can now amend it or take it back. A payment you claimed can be withdrawn; one you confirmed can be voided. Everyone's balance follows along, and the group's history keeps an honest record of what changed.

Rename a group

"Vacation" becomes "Vacation 2026". Trips get renamed, and now groups can be too.

Invite links that expire

An invite link used to work forever, which meant anyone who ever saw one could still join months later. Links now stop working after 7 days, and every screen that offers one says so. On your phone, tapping a link opens SpendSmart straight on the invite instead of taking you to the website first.

Leaving, and coming back

You can no longer leave a group while you still owe someone money - settle up first, so nobody is left chasing a balance that walked out. If you leave and later rejoin, you come back to the same seat, with your expenses and the group's history intact. Anyone removed for good cannot be added back by mistake.

What "3 shared groups" actually means

The free limit counts groups you START. Groups you are invited to have never counted towards it, and deleting one frees the slot. The app now says so, instead of a phrase that read like a cap on how many groups you could ever be in.

**Bug Fixes **

  • Signing in on the web could hang with no error and no way back.
  • Invite links could open a "page not found", and signing in to claim one could lose the link.

You'll find What's new in Settings whenever you'd like to read this again.

Groups, and the biggest update yet

2.0.0 ·

Split expenses with friends and family, log without typing, and a proper layout for desktop and iPad.

Version 2.0 is the biggest release since SpendSmart launched.

Share expenses with people

Create a group for a trip, a flat or a household and invite people with a link. Split a bill evenly, by amount, or line by line from a receipt - and everyone's share lands in their own ledger automatically, so budgets and reports stay correct without any extra work. Settle up whenever you're ready, and settled groups tuck themselves away.

Log without typing

  • Share a receipt straight into SpendSmart from your photos or any other app.
  • On iPhone, ask Siri or run a Shortcut to log an expense - or log one from a screenshot.
  • On Android, long-press the app icon to jump straight to adding.

Money that behaves correctly

  • Recurring income - rent, a salary or a retainer, not only bills.
  • Save your own exchange rate for a currency pair, and every foreign entry uses it.
  • Your own categories, with your own icon and colour.
  • Repeat this - turn any entry into a recurring one right from the Add screen.

Easier to find

Tap a category in Reports to see the transactions behind the number.

On a bigger screen

A proper layout for desktop and iPad - a sidebar and two columns, instead of one stretched-out phone screen.

Privacy

With app lock switched on, your ledger no longer appears in the app switcher.

Under the hood

Performance and stability work throughout, plus a long list of fixes across syncing, currencies, reports and signing in.

You'll find What's new in Settings whenever you'd like to read this again.

Groups, split bills, and money coming in

1.0.6 ·

Share costs with flatmates and trips, split any bill with anyone, and track what comes in as well as what goes out.

Share expenses with the people you share costs with

Groups are here. Create one for a flatshare, a trip, a couple or a household, add the people you split with, and every expense in it is visible to all of them. Add someone by name and they are on the bill straight away, with no account and no email address needed. When you want them to see it, send an invite link and they can claim their place.

Settle up works out the fewest payments that clear everyone. Pay however you normally would, then record it: if you were the one paying, that is a claim, and it moves nobody's balance until the person you paid confirms it. The app never handles money and never asks for payment details.

3 shared groups are free. Pro removes the limit, and there was never a cap on the people or the expenses inside one.

Split a bill without a group

Any expense can now carry the other people who were on it. Your share is kept separate from the total, so your own spending stays accurate while the record stays honest about what the bill actually was. Search finds a split by either figure.

Money coming in, not just going out

Recurring rules can now be income as well as bills, so a salary or a retainer lands on its date the same way rent does. Categories understand the difference, and Reports keeps the two apart.

Make it yours

Create your own categories with their own icons, and they appear everywhere the built-in ones do. Save a template for anything you log often and it is one tap away on the Add screen.

Everywhere else

Budgets and Goals moved into Reports, alongside the month and year views, so planning and reviewing now sit in one place. Tap any category in Reports to see what is behind the number. Exchange rates have a screen of their own. The app lock no longer interrupts an edit in progress, and leaving a half-finished entry asks before it throws the work away.
